Purpose of Position:
The Department of Marketing, Sports Business, and Construction Management in the Haile College of Business at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) invites applications for the position of Department Chair, beginning July 2026. The Chair provides academic and administrative leadership to support excellence in teaching, faculty development, student success, and industry engagement, while overseeing curriculum, program growth, and departmental operations in alignment with the College’s and University’s missions.
Primary Responsibilities

The department seeks both a colleague and a leader who will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Effectively manage department affairs, including budgeting, scheduling, evaluation of faculty, assessment of programs, and reporting.
  • Initiate new academic programs and projects when appropriate
  • Work to increase student success, retention, and recruitment.
  • Develop collaborations with campus and external partners on a variety of initiatives related to the department.
  • Guide the department to refine and implement its vision for the future, including curriculum development and review, hiring of high-quality faculty members, and professional development for the current faculty.
  • Encourage the faculty in teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and service to community, institution, and profession or discipline.
  • Promote student opportunities for professional networking, academic excellence, and cross-disciplinary cooperation.
  • Advocate for the department across the university, and community.
  • Work collaboratively with other chairs and the dean to advance the collective interests of the college.
  • Work with the Dean and the College Development officer to facilitate the solicitation of donations and fund raising.
  • Maintain contact with alumni.
  • Teach six credit hours per year.
  • Maintain academic qualification status for AACSB through research and professional engagement activities as described in the Haile College Policy on Faculty Qualifications
  • Serve on the College Executive Committee and the University Council of Chairs.
  • Function as signature authority for approval of catalog exceptions (pre-req waivers, course substitutions, etc.), catalog edits, and transfer course equivalency evaluations
  • Resolution of student issues
  • Coordinate recruiting of FT and PT faculty as needed.
  • Assign mentors for FT and PT faculty in their first five years at NKU.
  • Consult the NKU Department Chair Handbook for elaboration of duties as approved by the BOR.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

  • The applicant must have a degree in a discipline offered by the department.
  • The applicant must have the highest degree appropriate for those who teach in their discipline.
  • The applicant must demonstrate, by evidence, the ability to provide leadership in an academic environment and to perform administrative tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • The applicant should have a demonstrated history of effective teaching, scholarship, and service as appropriate for their rank and discipline.
  • The applicant must have knowledge of programs within the department in terms of requirements, policy, procedure, operation, and management; accreditation requirements generally, and specifically those that apply to the AACSB and SACSCOC.

Applicants should submit:
1) A cover letter specifically addressing the following issues:
a. Interest, experience, and qualifications.
b. Leadership goals and vision for guiding the department forward. This must include a strategy for improving retention, graduation rates, and enrollment in programs offered by the department.
2) A recent curriculum vitae.
