This position receives calls for police services, assesses level of need and relays emergency information to officers in the field, creates records of police calls for service, makes entries into required state and national data files, monitors alarms, and greets walk-in visitors and ultimately connects them to necessary services. Primary Responsibilities Maintains watch on several radio communication channels. Monitors and logs all transmission of the communications center and mobile units; monitors radio traffic. Responds to calls from citizens by determining nature of the call and obtaining relevant data. Dispatches officers to respond and maintains radio traffic with officers. Records and retrieves data using computerized systems dealing with a variety of matters. Dispatches officers to calls for service; performs administrative tasks using computer-aided dispatch system. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to monitoring campus building fire alarms, maintenance of communication records, and provision of general University information to the public. The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a diverse and dynamic environment and will be a creative problem solver. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma. Must be able to obtain state certification within six months from date of hire. Requires successful completion of psychological, polygraph, drug screen, medical and background investigations. Excellent computer, communication, customer service, and organizational skills required. Work schedule requirement includes rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous dispatch experience and/or DOCJT/ KLEC telecommunicator certification.
